The acknowledgment of our teachers
Although the conditions for the teacher´s position in this century are becoming more and more difficult and it is often said, that the evaluation – either financial or verbal – is insufficient or even the teacher are not prepared enough, still there are people, who are not discouraged to work as teachers. These are people, who realized that teaching is not just a profession but rather a mission. People who realize, that our hope sits in the chairs of our school and therefore it is important to dedicate time, energy and love. The birth of Ján Ámos Komenský is every year celebrated as the Day of Teacher and thereat two unique teacher of our school were awarded.
Andrea Michalková
„Teaching is a profession you must feel.“
Andrea´s interest in nature was significant since her early childhood – she used to walk in forest with parent, she established a couple of herbals, collected beetles and stones.
In addition to the love of nature, she also wanted to dedicate her time to young people. She likes this kind of work and she is always pleased, when students achieve something in various competitions like SOČ or The Olympiad in Chemistry.
She likes to help her students to develop their potential. On the other hand, she feels the compassion with students who try their best and fail. She says it is a pity that she does not have enough time and space to do more experiments with her students. The biggest motivation for her is responsibility – she wants to provide the students with the best base in particular area in order to not lose them during the university studies and future life.
Every single “thank you” is a big encouragement for her. When a capable student leaves the school, it is the biggest reward for every teacher.
Jaroslava Kériová
„The aim is the work with students, not the language itself.“
Jaroslava Kériová probably did not anticipate that she would become a language teacher at bilingual grammar school. She wanted to dedicate her life to children since her childhood, but her original combination of subjects was Slovak language and Religion. After study she went to Africa to Nairobi to help as a volunteer, where she enlarged her knowledge in foreign languages. She studied English later, when she wanted to increase her level of education. She also has a relation to literature, even the literature which is out of the outline of obligatory reading and by which she enriches her vocabulary and improves her expression of language.
Most likely, she introduces works, which take a close look on a life in the past. She also likes to watch historical movies, which are great methodological means and way how to understand past events in context. Her aim on the lessons of English grammar is to teach students complexly and correctly in order to express their opinions and ideas. She is pleased, when children become self-confident young people with enthusiasm and own opinion, who are able to apply their knowledge and contribute to the society. Feedback is also very important for her as well as constructive criticism from the students. She is welcome to ideas and impulses of students. The work of teacher has weak points according to her as she stated the low status in society and financial insufficiency.
